Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics!

The Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics was one of the first in Ukraine and the first computer–focused faculty on the western part of the country, created as a separate unit after the division of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics in 1975. The Faculty was formed on the basis of computer-oriented Department of Numerical Mathematics, Department of Applied Mathematics and Department of Theory of Optimal Processes. The opening of these departments and of the Faculty in general was due to the creation of the Computer Centre at Lviv University in 1959 and the development of scientific research in the sphere of computational mathematics at this centre.

The staff of the Faculty comprising 14 professors, 44 candidates of sciences, associate professors carry out scientific research in the areas of computer modelling of processes and systems, development of modern information systems, investigation of numerical methods for solving operator equations, methods for solving optimization problems, artificial intelligence systems, creation of computer software for the process of education.

The staff of the Faculty regularly publish their scientific and methodological achievements in international and Ukrainian journals, monographs, textbooks and manuals. Сurrent problems of applied mathematics and computer science are discussed at scientific and student scientific conferences held each year.

The Faculty trains specialists in specialties “Applied Mathematics”, “Computer Science”, “Cyber Security”, “Informatics (Education)” and “System Analysis”. In 2013 and 2015 the Faculty passed state accreditation and received licenses from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Students of the Faculty have an opportunity to gain knowledge of all  fundamental disciplines that form the basis of computer technologies, learn basic programming languages and become familiar with the latest achievements of IT-technologies. Teams of students of the Faculty became winners of different international programming competitions.

The students and the teachers are actively involved in European mobility programs and double degree programme with the University of  L’Aquila (Italy). Two PhD programs of “Applied Mathematics” and “Computer Science” passed state accreditation in 2021 at the faculty.

We invite you to join the initiative and creative community of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics!
