The Department of Programming trains specialists in “Mathematical providing and software of computers and systems” and “Informatics” research areas.
The Department provides a number of basic reading courses for “Informatics”, “Applied Mathematics” and “System Analysis” areas at the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, for “Mathematics” area at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics and the course “Fundamentals of Informatics” for students of the Faculty of International Relations and the Faculty of Law. In addition, professors of the Department conduct classes for the course “Fundamentals of Informatics” for postgraduate students of all majors.
Students receive here special training, acquire practical skills and knowledge in such areas of expertise as construction and use of operating systems design, development and use of databases, development of compilers for modern algorithmic languages, construction of expert systems, based on logic programming, development of system software for various purposes (text, spreadsheet and graphics programs, device drivers, antivirus software, training and testing programs, service programs for users etc.).
An important area of students specialization are informatics for middle school, developing of instructional materials for teachers and students, informatics curriculum for secondary schools.
The department was established in 1989.
